The Building Repair Emergency Fund continues Max Farash’s own practice of providing a “safety net” of funds that can be accessed quickly and used to meet emergency building expenses (e.g., short-term repairs needed for HVAC, hot water, etc.). Please note that roof repairs of any kind are not eligible for these emergency funds. The maximum per grant is $15,000, and nonprofit organizations must submit a copy of two estimates for the designated repair. If the grant is approved, the Foundation will pay the organization when it receives the invoice for the completed work. Final reporting includes submission of the final receipt(s) verifying that the work was both completed and paid for. Grant requests will be denied if repair work is initiated prior to official notification of grant approval.
Responses to requests for emergency funds will be expedited to the extent possible.
The Foundation allocates funds to this account on an annual basis. Once the funds are exhausted, this category will close until the following January.
The Foundation accepts letters of inquiry from nonprofit groups in Monroe and Ontario counties in New York State.
Only those organizations that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code of 1986, as amended, and are not classified as private foundations or Type III supporting organizations under Section 509 of the Code will be considered for grants. Proposals are limited to projects to be undertaken or initiated in Monroe or Ontario counties in New York State.
- An organization can apply for an emergency fund grant only once in a calendar year.
- Strong preference will be given to grant requests submitted by smaller organizations with limited operating budgets.
Restrictions (what is not funded)
- Routine repairs, scheduled maintenance, and repairs that are within the organization’s operating resources, are not eligible for funding.
- Roof repairs of any kind.
